After a 1-0 double-OT win over the Regina Rebels on Saturday, it was a much different result for the Diamond Energy Female Midget AAA Wildcats on Sunday.

On the road in Regina for the two-game set, the Wildcats closed out the weekend with an 8-3 loss at The Cooperators Centre.

It was an even 1-1 performance through the first 20 minutes.

Regina's Brooklyn Stevely opened scoring just short of six minutes into the game, before Wildcats defenceman Tenelle Lind took a power-play feed from Baylee Kirwan and Layne Hryhoriw and put a wrist shot from the point past the Rebels netminder.

However, period two proved to be the overwhelming difference in the game.

Regina came out flying in the second period to the tune of a five-goal frame, starting with a Miranda Hatt goal just 25 seconds into the period. Taylor Lind scored her 24th of the season undressing the Rebels goalie on a deke to make it a 6-2 hockey game.

That spelled the end of the afternoon for Wildcats netminder Harper Davey, who stopped 23 of 29 shots in her outing. She was replaced by Amaya Giraudier in net.

For the third straight period the Rebels scored first, as Ally Kosteniuk potted her second of the game, followed just over two minutes later by fellow forward Lauren Focht's second of the game for an 8-2 lead.

Swift would add one late when Sara Kendall flipped the puck over the pad of the Rebels goalie to close out the scoring. Toni Theaker and Brooklyn Colborn were credited with the assists.

Giraudier's 20-minute stint saw her stop six of eight Rebels shots as Swift was out-shot 37-27.

"The reality of it was for the first 50 minutes of it we were pretty soft to play against until the last 10 minutes of the game, when I don't know if we got fed up with it, we got strong on our sticks - we actually played pretty well," said Wildcats head coach Terry Pavely on his team's play through the majority of the Sunday afternoon contest.

"You can't win hockey games playing soft, and they were the team that had a little bit more want in them. They were more physical, they were more gritty, they tried to get under our skin, and we kind of let them - that was the difference."

The Wildcats (9-7-1-3) don't have to wait long for their next SFMAAAHL action, as they're on the road in Wilcox taking on the Notre Dame Hounds on Wednesday.

One issue from the game Pavely says he wants to key on in their single practice day before the game is maintaining pressure in the offensive zone.

"One thing we really want to do is possess the puck more - not until the last 10 minutes did we really cycle any pucks," he said. "It starts with being a little physical, winning the wall battles, get your feet moving and when you do, we can control the offensive zone. When you just throw pucks into the slot and hope, most teams collapse to the front of the net and then they're coming out towards us."

Puck drop in the January 17 road game for Swift is 8 p.m.
