Swift Current's Griffin Wilson traded in sub-zero temperatures for a desert climate this past week, ending off the 2018 golf season with a strong finish south of the border.

Though Swift Current was snow-covered, with his home course of Elmwood Golf & Country Club closed for the winter, Wilson was in Phoenix, Arizona at Legacy Golf Club for the Maple Leaf Junior Tour's (MJT) National Championship.

Wilson finished tied for seventh in the Junior Boys Category, among 26 total golfers in the division, running from November 8-11.

He posted rounds of 75, 76, and 77 to finish 15 shots back of the winner Justin Towill from Kelowna, B.C.

Wilson was one of four students from the Elmwood-based Jeff Chambers Golf Academy at the Invite-Only MJT National Championship.

Other Academy results include a fifth-place finish from Yorkton's Ella Kozak in the U15 Girls division, an eighth-place for Moose Jaw's Raylyn Schmidt in the 15-18 Girls division, and a tenth-place result for Darien Herlick of Weyburn in the Bantam Boys division.
