The quest to a second straight Sask-Alta Baseball League championship begins Thursday night for the Swift Current Yard Goats.

The Goats will begin their 2017 season by paying a visit to Cabri to battle the River Rats.

Last season, Swift Current finished the regular season with an 11-2 record before winning three straight playoff games to claim the league crown.

However, for the Yard Goats, their two losses last season both came at the hands of the River Rats, falling 1-0 and 3-2.

Thursday evening's game will also be the first of the season for Cabri.

Also hitting the diamond on Thursday will be the Burstall Braves to take on the Richmound Rockets.

The Sask-Alta Baseball League got underway on Monday when the Medicine Hat Black Sox took down the downed the Medicine Hat Vipers 6-3.

On Tuesday, the Gull Lake Greyhounds blanked the Shaunavon Badgers 1-0.

The Yard Goats will play their 2017 home-opener on May 16th when they host the Climax Cardinals.
