Depending on how air-quality tests turn out, the Leader and District Integrated Healthcare Facility could be open soon.

The facility became operational in late September 2018, but its doors have been closed since a water line break in a ceiling bulkhead in the long term care part of the building on February 7.

During a conference call with media on February 14, Derek Miller, the executive director of infrastructure management with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, said the affected area lacked sufficient insulation.

A release from the Saskatchewan Health Authority said repairs are nearing completion. Some that have occurred include more insulation being added to the affected area, water line repair and testing, damaged drywall was taken out and new drywall added, replacement of electrical panels, and thorough cleaning.

Tests for air quality took place this week, and the SHA is expecting those results within a few days.

On February 7, some patients were discharged while others went to Swift Current.
