You don't want to miss what's being called the brightest meteor shower in recorded human history.

The world-wide Perseid Meteor Shower peaks this weekend.

Joan Hodgins is the Chairperson of the Wilkinson Memorial Observatory Astronomy Club at Eastend. She says, "They're predicting, under ideal conditions, up to 100 to 150 meteorites an hour. And that peak will actually happen both Saturday August 12th and Sunday August 13th."

Hodgins adds that this meteor shower also boasts the highest number of the bright fireball meteorites of any throughout the year and will peak both nights at around one a.m.

After dark be sure to look to the north and east to see the Perseid Meteor Shower, which will not happen again for another 96 years.

The Wilkinson Memorial Observatory at Eastend will be open at ten p.m. both evenings, and they welcome people to bring their lawn chairs and come out to view the Meteor Shower with them.
