The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association recently announced the results of the year's Saskatchewan Communities in Bloom Program.

With COVID-19 causing the cancellation of in person evaluations, Communities in Bloom launched seven new Special Recognition Awards.

One of those  Special Recognition Awards, The Environmental Action Award, was given to the community of Eastend for their development of their Town Square.

The Eastend Town Square is a public green space developed on a former gas station site.

Rosa Vazquez-Ring from Eastend Tourism and Economic Development talked about the partnership formed to work on the project. She said, "This is an on going project between the Town of Eastend and community groups. It started with The Eastend Community Tourism and Economic Development Authority, and then The Garden Club, and then the Communities in Bloom committee. It  has different phases, but, in fact, it is a growing project, so every year we add something to it."

She added that they are so thankful for all their volunteers and look forward to adding more to the Town Square project in the future.
