As the Chinook Power Station just west of Swift Current nears completion, another section of powerlines coming from Regina is coming closer to connecting the two cities.

The Condie to Belle Plaine transmission line is a 44 km long transmission line which will bring power to the capital of the province that much closer.

Recently construction concluded on bringing Swift Current's side of the power line as far as the R.M. of Morse.

Spokesperson for SaskPower, Joel Cherry, explained more about the line.

"It goes from the Condie switching station just northwest of Regina to Belle Plaine, they said it started in the summer of 2018, and the total cost was $36,000,000."

The two lines are expected to reach each other, completing the link between 'where life makes sense' and the 'Queen City', in summer of this year.

Completion of the Chinook Power Station is said to be finished in the fall.

Cherry said that the lines may be energized as early as this spring, but would be attached at a later date.

Once complete, the Chinook Power Station will be able to produce 350 megawatts, which would be able to power roughly 350,000 homes.
