The number of cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan took a jump Friday afternoon, as the provincial government reported 254 new cases across the province, and just 150 recoveries. The increase in active cases of 104 brings the total number in the province up to 2,053. This is the first time there have been over 2,000 active cases in Saskatchewan since February 9th.

The Regina zone saw the highest number of new cases with 112. There were 36 new cases reported in the Saskatoon zone, 31 in the South East zone, 22 in South Central, 13 in North West, 12 in the North Central zone, nine in the North East, eight in Central East, three in Far North East and one in the Far North West. There are seven cases pending residence information.

One death linked to COVID-19 was reported in Friday’s update. The person who passed away was in the 60-69 age group and lived in the Saskatoon zone.

Across the province there are now 193 people in hospital in Saskatchewan, with 37 of those people in intensive care.

Vaccine delivery has continued to progress, with 8,109 doses reported to have been administered in the update. There have now been a total of 208,742 vaccines given in Saskatchewan.

The doses reported Friday afternoon were 2,225 in the Saskatoon zone, 1,911 in the Regina zone, 604 in the North East zone, 500 in the North Central zone, 413 in North West, 242 in South West and Far North West, 224 in South East, 1138 in Far North East and 11 in Central West.
