The province of Saskatchewan's economy continues to reach all-time highs.

Figures released last week by Stats Canada show Saskatchewan's workers enjoyed the highest month-over-month percentage growth in average weekly earnings among the provinces in December 2016, up 2.2 per cent (seasonally adjusted) from the previous month to $1,010.37.

This marks the first time in Saskatchewan's history the average weekly earnings were above $1,000.

Those weekly earnings, combined with the province of Saskatchewan having the fourth lowest unemployment rate among the provinces, have created a strong economy and a growing population.

"It's an exciting time and again these numbers come as no surprise," Swift Current Mayor Denis Perrault said. "Our city is experiencing extreme growth but our province is too. I know it is a bit of recession but through the strength of our entrepreneurs, our investors, the hard work of people in Saskatchewan and of our community, we're seeing weekly earnings at an all-time high."

The unemployment rate for the southwest region of the province is 3.3 per cent and the province of Saskatchewan's rate is at 6.6 per cent.

"These are very exciting times. On the SaskJobs website right now, there are 336 jobs just in Swift Current available," Perrault told Swift Current Online. "We've got record unemployment numbers here in Swift Current and very low unemployment numbers here in Saskatchewan."

With inflation factored in, Saskatchewan's real wage increased by 1.2 per cent year-over-year while the national real wage declined by 0.3 per cent.
