The Victoria Day Long Weekend is here, and that means road trips for many Saskatchewan families.

With the start of camping and cottage season there will be an increase in highway traffic with the return of motorcycles, recreation vehicles, camper trailers, and boat trailers.

Be sure that, before you head out, to check your vehicle. Seat belts should be in working condition and worn by all occupants and children's car or booster seats must be installed properly.

CAA Saskatchewan is reminding motorists to eliminate driver distractions such as mobile phones, eating, drinking, adjusting dials and smoking. And please remember to not drink and drive this long weekend.

Other helpful hints to make your journey a safe one include checking your tires, brake fluid, coolant and oil levels, as well as window washer fluid levels.

Check your vehicle battery, radiator hoses and your windshield wipers.

Also, remember it is the law to slow to 60 kilometers per hour when passing working tow truck operators.
