Saskatchewan Premier and Swift Current MLA Brad Wall is retiring.

The leader of the Saskatchewan Party announced the move at 10 a.m. on Facebook. He said he'll step down once the party finds a new leader.

Wall became premier in 2007. He said while the past decade of growth is a strong foundation to build on, the province needed a change.

"I believe though that to best ensure continued success in that work, Saskatchewan needs renewal - a fresh perspective in leadership. This was such a difficult decision to make."

Wall has been Swift Current's MLA since 1999 and the Saskatchewan Party's leader since 2004.
