The Swift Current 57's held their 13th annual Field of Dreams Dinner on Saturday night at the newly renovated Swift Current Legion.

This year's event included a dinner followed by a guest speaker before closing out the evening with silent and live auctions.

Henry Burris former Saskatchewan Roughriders Quarterback was the event's guest speaker.

"Turns out he's a real great entertainer and a great subject," Swift Current 57's President Mike Mutlow said. "He's got that big smile on his face from the time he walks in the room until the time he leaves at the end of the night."

Burris who recently retired after winning his third Grey Cup this past season acknowledged the dedication by the community to help support amateur athletics.

"In this case, we're looking at the Swift Current 57's. The fact that it's a community-owned team (that relies on) hard work and sacrifices from people to help make dreams come true for young men," Burris said.

Burris notes for many players on the 57’s, the journey from the United States to Canada to pursue their passion was a similar journey to his own.

"These guys are young men who come up each summer who are looking to achieve a dream one day," he said. "(They get that chance) by coming up and represent the Swift Current 57's and wearing that brand and logo on the front of their uniforms."

The recent rebranding done by the 2016 Western Major Baseball League Champions helped draw a sold-out crowd of over 250 people.

"Maybe that attributed to the sellout, I think there is some renewed interest in the ball club and maybe it's because of the rebranding," Mutlow added. "It was great participation by the crowd, the auctions went well and everybody had a great night."

The funds raised at the dinner by the 57's will go towards paying for general expenses such as transportation and uniforms.

The reigning WMBL Champions are set to play their first game of the season on June 1st when they welcome the Moose Jaw Miller Express to Mitchell Field.
