There are now certain guidelines for treating young teenagers who are diagnosed with hypertension.

Nadia Khan, President of Hypertension Canada, has informed the public that one in every fifty children under 18 possesses high blood pressure, and that the number is going to keep on growing if the issue stays ignored. The official guidelines and numbers were posted by Hypertension Canada in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology.

Hypertension or high blood pressure represents one of the main risk factors for heart, blood vessel or kidney diseases. It also can affect a stroke at any time, and can do damage to all Canadian teenagers.

"Our goal is to ensure all health-care professionals are attuned to the increasing prevalence of hypertension in children and are aware that these guidelines can help them to better identify, treat or refer appropriately their young patients," Khan spoke.

Hypertension is proven to be somewhat related to causes of childhood obesity and other lifestyle factors that lack activities.

There could be as many as one million Canadians that are not aware they have hypertension, and many of them are working full time jobs in the field.

According to President Nadia Khan, "A key first step to maintain or achieve healthy blood pressure if to know your numbers. Measure annually if your blood pressure is normal and more often if you're working to lower it. Knowing your numbers can save your health."
