The Canadian Cowboys Association [CCA] Finals Rodeo is coming to Swift Current for the second straight year, and the City of Swift Current is celebrating by proclaiming this week, October 15 to 21, CCA Finals Rodeo Week.

The rodeo will feature the best cowboys and cowgirls from across Canada with the top 12 in each of seven events competing to be named the best on the national circuit. The winner in each event will receive a trophy championship saddle and a trophy belt buckle.

Lenora Bells is the event development coordinator for the Swift Current Ag & Ex, and the product marketing manager with the CCA committee.

She says that this week is a way to remember where the rodeo came from.

"The significance is that we recognize our western traditions and our heritage, and so we recognize where this land came from," Bells said. "When farmers and ranchers came out and got together what they did was ranching activities because that's what they do best, and whole villages and towns would get together and support the cowboys that came out."

In addition to the rodeo, the CCA will also be celebrating CCA Finals Rodeo Week with a tradeshow on October 19 to 21 and by inviting kids from the Chinook School Division to learn about rodeo.

The four-day event is capped off on Saturday with the CCA cabaret held at the Kinetic Exhibition Park Building.

Last year 15,200 people attended the rodeo.

The CCA finals rodeo happens October 15 to 21.
