Saskatchewan is celebrating their numerous provincial parks this week with Saskatchewan Park Week in full swing.

The celebration has been happening throughout the province for over 35 years and aims to promote the parks’ programs and facilities while showcasing the natural, cultural and historical resources.

West Central Saskatchewan has three parks within the region all with events happening throughout the summer for residents to enjoy.

A new and unique activity that has been added this year for Park Week is an interactive and engaging app called BioBlitz.

The app allows users to take photos of anything they see from plants, bugs and birds when they are exploring the parks either on their own or with a park guide.

The goal of the app is to encourage children and adults alike to explore the province’s parks, while at the same time gives the parks a chance to discover and record different species of plants, wildlife and bugs.

Through the app, an online community will then determine the name of the species and possibly discover ones that have never been recorded before in the province.

Saskatchewan Park Week is running from July 15–21 and all parks throughout the region will be offering different performances and activities as the week goes on.
