It wasn't The Drifters 'Up On The Roof' of Central School, but instead, Jeffery Straker.

Straker is a singer/songwriter, and over a year ago helped the students at Central School write the school's anthem, titled 'We Are Cougar Strong'.

The song has since been used at assemblies and is sung or listened to every week at the school. With the success and popularity of the song, the school decided to make its own music video, and the first scene featured Straker.

"The music teacher Celia Hammerton has me come in and do a workshop with some of her students. We worked for a day and a half and they came up with a really great song, Straker said. "They've sung it a lot and the kids are really revved up about it and it was really helping with school identity so they thought they would do a music video, so that's what I was doing up there, doing a little cameo."

Straker said that it was really cool to see the song get turned into a music video.

"It's kind of what you hope happens with these things," he said. "I don't do a ton of these, but I do maybe two or so a year, where I will go into a school and do workshops and introduce the idea of songwriting to students. Each of those we engage in writing a song and sometimes they write it, and they like it and not much happens after that."

"You're kind of secretly hoping that every now and then, you are going to come across a situation where it sort of catches. All credit to Celia Hammerton because she's really got the students excited about it and they own this thing. They made it themselves - I sort of coached them through the process. It's kind of what I really hope to have happened with these projects and it's great to see this one really kind of take on this life."

Straker said, not only was it cool to be a part of the music video, but the whole process.

"I'm grateful that they invited me to do it in the first place," he said. "The fact that Mrs. Hammerton and the school came in and trusted me to do this, it's really great."

Straker added that all he knows about the project is that there is a music video being produced. There is no time frame on when the song will be completed but Hammerton said they hope to have it completed by next fall.
