This morning we told you about some big equipment being moved to the Chinook Power Station and now we've got an update on the construction site.

The $680-million project began construction last spring and is progressing nicely according to Jordan Jackle a spokesperson for SaskPower.

"It more than 70 per cent completed at this point," he explained. "Crews are obviously still installing pretty big pieces of equipment as we are seeing here [with the two pipe rack modules]. They're also working on some of the more mechanical and electrical systems at the plant as well.

"The site itself, for anybody driving by or those that can kind of see it, is really starting to take shape. This is some of the big equipment that's going to be there doing the bulk of the work."

Once complete there will be roughly 20,000 metres of piping installed and 115 kilometres of electrical cable as well.

Jackle said the station is still on track to be online for late 2019 and will provide 350 megawatts to the provincial power grid which is enough electricity for around 350,000 homes.
