Of all the things affected by the cold weather, the amount of work for the Shaunavon RCMP is not on that list.

Sergeant Dan Archibald with the Shaunavon RCMP Detachment said the colder weather has not impacted them and calls remain on par with other years.

"No, I don't think we really see a huge increase. We've been getting steady motor vehicle collisions coming to the front counter and getting called out to them."

In the Shaunavon detachment's Calls of Service Report for December and January, the detachment reports eight motor vehicle collision reports.

With SGI reporting 640 Distracted Driving infractions happening during January, with most of them involving cellphone use, Archibald says they are seeing that many drivers in Shaunavon and area are not putting their cellphones away when they are behind the wheel. He says that's something the police will be watching going forward.
