The Shaunavon Food Bank, in sponsorship with Affinity Credit Union, is welcoming residents of Shaunavon to come out and plant their own garden this spring.

The Food Bank has a limited number of plots available in the Community Garden located at All Saints Anglican Church in Shaunavon.

Richard Frenette is a Food Bank Board Member and their Financial Officer. He says, "It just came up at one of our earlier meetings, that perhaps it was something that we could do. And so last year we dug the soil, and treated it, and this Spring, added fertilizer and tilled it, and divided it into plots."

Now for just a $10 fee you can plant your own fresh produce to enjoy over the summer and fall.

Frenette says there is an agreement to sign when you purchase a plot in the Garden, and you are responsible to maintain and water your area. The Food Bank supplies the garden hose, some garden tools, and pails for watering. Then, at the end of the season, if your plot is maintained as per the agreement you will receive your $10 back.

The Food Bank is currently looking for some garden tools, and either a picnic table or a patio table to have for people to use at the Garden Plot.

To book your spot in the Shaunavon Community Garden phone the Food Bank at 294-9111, or stop by their office located in the Anglican Church on Mondays and Thursdays from two thirty until four thirty p.m.
