After only a week of organizing, the community of Wymark rallied to raise around $10,000 on Saturday night in support of Josh Janzen - a 12 year old at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

Janzen has cerebellar hypoplasia and was airlifted to Saskatoon in late November after falling seriously ill. He then had a stroke on December 3 followed by three seizures.

Kelsey Biesel of First Steps Photography is Janzen's cousin and organized the event at the Wymark rink.

"We had about 150-200 people coming and going the whole night," she said. "We had Santa there, and we took Santa pictures for about two hours. And Santa was busy with about 90 people - kids and adults, young at heart - so it was just an amazing event."

Biesel said it looks like Janzen could be moving to Regina for rehabilitation as he appears to on the upswing. His parents have been with him in Saskatoon for a while now.

Biesel's parents brought the news to Saskatoon yesterday, and Biesel said Janzen's parents were "over the moon" and that the money was a "huge weight" lifted off their shoulders, as they haven't been able to work while in Saskatoon.

While Biesel did much of the organizing, she credited the community with rallying for her cousin.

"We had so many raffles. When it started we had a couple friends and family offering up raffle items, and then from there we went from five raffle items to 17, so the community really came together," said Biesel.
