A seal-coating project put on by the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure at Highway 1 and 19 east of Rush Lake is expected to be completed sometime this week.

Steve Shaheen of the Ministry of Highways and infrastructure said they started the seal coating on Monday.

The project involves an application of liquid asphalt and gravel chips over the road before being impacted into the gravel by rubber-tired rollers. Shaheen said afterwards it's left to cure for 24 hours before loose gravel is swept off.

"This is one of those examples that requires reduced speed limits remain in effect, even when no workers are present," said Shaheen. "We know a lot of people are concerned when they see signage up and there's nobody working, but this is one of those cases where the people need to abide by the posted speed limits to essentially mitigate any vehicle damage."
