There could be another light dusting of snow in the Swift Current area today as a cold front is expected to pass by.

According to Environment Canada, the low-pressure system is supposed to hit southwestern Saskatchewan this afternoon and be gone by Thursday.

Kyle Fougère, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said the storm that should be passing through the area isn't too intense.

"It will likely bring scattered flurries, we're expecting probably less than 2 centimetres of accumulation with that system," he said. "It will stay a little cooler on Thursday before a little bit of a warmup on the weekend."

As for the cold air, Fougère expects most of it to stick around for the rest of the month at least.

"I don't see a really strong signal for a real warmup next week either," he said. "We are kind of expected to be basically what we're seeing this week, which is, not as cold as it was at the start of the month, but still below normal for this time of year."

Swift Current's average temperature this February has been -23.8 C, almost 16 C colder than normal.
