The Town of Shaunavon has made some changes to their traffic bylaws and, effective immediately,  penalties for traffic bylaw infractions have been doubled.

Shaunavon Bylaw Officer, Rick Nicholson, says, "The fines have basically doubled. So, like, for a U Turn it was 50, it's $100. Any parking on the street too long is now a $100 fine. Making a left turn in the middle of the block is $200 now."

Traffic bylaw adjustments, that Nicholson will be enforcing next week, include no persons should make a left hand turn between intersections except when entering or exiting a lane or alley, parking lot, or driveway. Also, no person should park in any "no parking" area designated by signage and no stopping in front of local schools except in designated areas. No person shall park a vehicle facing the opposite of the flow of traffic and no person should park a vehicle within five meters of any street intersection or fire hydrant. And the bylaw permitting a vehicle to be parked on the street has been increased from 24 consecutive hours to 72 consecutive hours.

Effective in the spring when signage will be put in place, the speed limit will be 25 kilometers an hour all the way through on fifth avenue from fourth street west to fifth street east inclusive. And, also this spring, the town will be putting up more NO U TURN signage on third avenue between the Red Apple store and JB's Restaurant.
