The Saskatchewan government passed legislation Wednesday that will allow the province to sell up to 49 percent of Crown corporations.

The passing of Bill 40 will allow the government to take up to 49 percent of any Crown corporation and wind down, sell off or dissolve of without consultation with the public on the matter.

Moving forward, the province can sell shares in SaskTel or SaskPower, as long as the government maintains 51 percent ownership.

The opposition NDP say it's a betrayal of the people since the SaskParty said they weren't planning on selling the Crown corporations.
