The Town of Shaunavon has announced the launch of a new "Dilapidated Building Program" that promotes the beautification of the Town by facilitating the demolition of privately owned dilapidated buildings at a 50-50 cost share with property owners.

After assessment of the community, Shaunavon's Bylaw Officer identified a growing list of privately-owned buildings that are considered a dilapidated building under the Nuisance Bylaw.

A dilapidated building is defined as being dangerous to public health or safety, substantially depreciating the value of other land or improvements in the neighborhood, or is substantially detrimental to the amenities of the neighborhood.

The Town of Shaunavon has devised a policy that would assist property owners with demolishing their dilapidated buildings by offering a 50/50 cost share program that would cover up to $20,000 of work, with the Town covering costs up to $10,000 and providing an interest free loan for the property owners 50%, up to $10,000, for three years.

Application needs to be made to the Town of Shaunavon first to be approved prior to any work commencing.

Applications and full policy details are available on the town of Shaunavon website or by calling the Town Office.
