Shaunavon Union Hospital.

On Sunday May 7th, the Shaunavon Union Hospital was temporarily closed on that Sunday evening at seven p.m. until seven a.m. on Monday morning May 8th.

Brad Boutilier from the Cypress Health Region says the closure was due to the unavailability of a registered nurse due to illness.

He adds that all available options to avoid that disruption were exhausted throughout the day on the Sunday, however, coverage could not be secured for that twelve hour period.

When possible, the Health Region contacts local stakeholders and utilizes its social medial channels, their website, and local media to advise the public of temporary disruptions in services. In this particular instance, there was a breakdown in the process that didn't allow for the disruption to get posted to the Health Region's website or distributed to  media.

Boutilier says that the Health Region will be pulling together a team to meet in the very near future to do a full review on their disruption protocol and processes.

Residents are always encouraged to dial 9-1-1 in a medical emergency and an ambulance will be dispatched.  For non-medical emergencies HealthLine is available 24/7 at 8-1-1, HealthLine is staffed by registered nurses and other health professionals.
