A charitable response to consumer driven Black Friday and Cyber Monday is Giving Tuesday which occurs December 1st.

Cody Barnett, Director of Development and Communications for the Nature Conservancy of Canada in Saskatchewan, details the purpose behind the day.

"The charitable sector created Giving Tuesday to have people who are less concerned about consumerism and finding their deals to give them an oppotunity to go out and do something good with their income rather than just purchasing things."

The Nature Conservancy of Canada works across the country to perserve the very best wild places that are left.

Barnett adds that conserving nature is always important yet even more so now during the pandemic when people are both enjoying nature and using it to improve their mental health.

In addition Barnett says here in Saskatchewan during the pandemic, nature has been both a blessing and a benefit for those living here.

Donations made today to the Nature Conservancy of Canada will be matched as Barnett details.

"All the funds that go through Giving Tuesday are kept in the province that you live in. So donations here in Saskatchewan are being matched by Heather Ryan and L. David Dube to a total of one hundred thousand dollars. So the money goes to conserving nature right here in Saskatchewan."

It is necessary to donate towards conserving nature now because the more we do now, the more places and wildlife there will be to enjoy in the future, according to Barnett.
