It was another day filled with tornadic activity and severe thunderstorms in southwestern Saskatchewan yesterday.

Environment Canada confirmed late last night that two tornadoes had occurred in the southwest, one west of Golden Prairie and one northeast of Val Marie.

Both were given preliminary ratings of EF-0 with no damage reported to Environment Canada.

John Paul Cragg, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said that Saskatchewan had at least four tornadoes yesterday, with two by Wood Mountain.

"It's been a pretty active couple of days down through southern Saskatchewan, lots of active weather in the area," he said. "It's good to note for at least the next two days - today and tomorrow - things look like they've calmed down a bit."

It wasn't just rain, wind, and tornado activity as large-sized hail was spotted in a few areas.

"The biggest reports of hail that we saw were close to Val Marie, on that cell near Val Marie that also brought a tornado," Cragg said. "We saw reports of baseball to softball sized hail under that system.

"Eastend had quarter-sized hail, Fox Valley had nickel-sized hail, and Frontier had nickel-sized hail."
