With hamper delivery slated for Monday, it's the last day of gifts coming in for the Salvation Army's Angel Tree.

It's part of the annual Christmas campaign where people take an angel off the tree and replace it with a gift for a kid that's part of the hamper program.

The Salvation Army's Major Don Grad said at the end of yesterday they were still waiting for 42 of 218 gifts. All gift tags were taken.

"Unfortunately just right now as we have to get ready for our hamper distribution on Monday, we always seem to come to a bit of a time crunch where there's still a number outstanding," Grad said. "We just want to get those in so we can get them organized for distribution on Monday."

The Salvation Army plans on buying any outstanding gifts so kids whose families receive hampers aren't left without something. Grad said late gifts would be used in "alternate ways" for the Christmas dinner or something, but they are hoping to have everything in by tonight.

"The angel tree I think is just so much fun, because I know many families will pick two or three tags and they'll go shopping with their kids, and they'll say 'okay, you can help us pick for a six-year-old boy - that's what you are.' It's such a fun thing, and it teaches us about sharing and compassion and all that sort of stuff," said Grad.

An angel tag with gender and age is put on the tree at the Swift Current Mall for every kid whose familly has a hamper coming.
