The Shaunavon Girl Guides group held a special Coat Event last evening at the Alliance Church in Shaunavon.

Anyone needing a free warm winter coat or jacket was welcome to attend and browse through a little over sixty men's, ladies, and children's items that were available.

Lauren Rucks from the Shaunavon Girl Guides group said this is the first time they've tried this kind of event in Shaunavon and it was very successful.

She adds, "Well, a big part of the Girl Guides program is community service projects. So this is the first project that we took on with the girls this year. It's a girl driven program, Girl Guides is, and so we take an interest in what the girls are actually interested in and ways that they can really contribute to their community."

The girls were actively involved in the evening and about thirty winter coats and jackets were given out.

The group hopes to hold the event again next year around this time, possibly expanding to include mitts, hats, and scarves.
