An annual donation from a Swift Current service organization will allow lots of free swimming for children 14 and under this month.

Back on Monday, the Swift Current Kiwanis Club gifted the Aquatic Centre $3,800 to ensure February is free swim month for all public and family swim times.

Melissa Shaw, the aquatic superintendent with the City of Swift Current, said Kiwanis has been making the donation for a couple of decades.

"That (donation) pretty much covers up approximately 500 youth to come through the facility," she said. "We have made the commitment to both the Kiwanis and ourselves that any children above that 500, if we reach that number, we will just continue to honour that donation."

The pool could be really packed later this month when public/high school students are off for Spring break which runs from February 18-22.

"It's a really great thing, especially during February where we have a week of no school," Shaw said. "This allows for kids to get out of the cold, come in and have a little bit of fun, and swim, and enjoy all that that has to offer."

The last few days the pool has been pretty empty according to Shaw, but she also went onto say anytime there is a big cold spell the number of people to check out the Aquatic Centre drops.
