This week the city of Swift Current looks a little greener thanks to the staff at Stark & Marsh and Innovation Credit Union.

Staff members spent last Friday participating in the Go Green Friday event that aims to help the city out with parks-related projects that they have on the go as CEO of Stark & Marsh, Elden Moberg explains.

"There were numerous projects on the go. I guess for our staff at Stark & Marsh we were involved with Memorial Park, there were some updates there. They took out some shrubs and old caragana bushes I believe and we ended up putting in some new trees and bushes and shrubs."

Moberg adds that there was also some work done at the mountain bike trail with some tree planting out in that direction as well.

With 60 to 70 people in attendance, Moberg says the turnout was excellent and after not holding the event for the past couple of years it was great to be out and participating and helping the city out with some of the projects they have on the go.

Moberg reflects on the personal importance of the event.

"I think for our people they like it because it gives them the opportunity to get out and when their driving around town they can see the locations that they've contributed to and they've helped as well so I think there's two pieces to it. You're doing something that you know is important and helps out but there's a bit of a long-lasting legacy to it as well."

Although the turnout this year was limited to Stark & Marsh and Innovation Credit Union employees, Moberg says they are hoping that next year they are able to invite other members of the community to help out as in the past they have been big contributors.

Reflecting on the event, Moberg says that looking back to when the program started in 2009, they were looking for a way to contribute something different than others had done until that point.

Go Green Friday was something that was started with the city and looking around the city there are a lot of Go Green activities and sites.

Moberg wishes to thank Innovation Credit Union for being a sponsorship partner and also the city of Swift Current as they are the ones who put the projects in place and they do a lot of the pre-work to get everything ready.
