An online auction block is about to decide the fate of 48 lots of Crown land across the province.

The Saskatchewan Government is making some final preparations before approximately 11,400 acres get auctioned off to the highest bidder during the beginning of November.

"It's not uncommon, I mean this is a normal amount of land to have up for sale," Wally Hoehn, executive director for the Ministry of Agriculture Lands Branch, said. "We've done the sale for years. Up until last year, the only avenue was a tender sale."

Earlier this year the government changed its approach from a tender sale to an online auction, something that Hoehn said they've gotten great feedback from.

"We're pretty excited," he said of the online auction. "It's been really popular and like I said, the public really likes it because of the transparency. It's definitely the way we're going to be selling Crown land for a while."

The closest piece of land to the southwest up for sale is located by Biggar.

The bidding war is set to begin on October 23.
