Two organizations with Swift Current businesses picked up some hardware earlier in the week as they received recognization for their roles as employers.

Both SIGA and Pattison Agriculture Limited were named as a top Saskatchewan employer. This is SIGA's second year in a row receiving the award.

Both companies are home to numerous programs which look to improve employment situations for employees, ranging from providing massage therapy to workers in the case of SIGA, and offering bonuses as part of a referral and recruitment program at Pattison Agriculture.

Both businesses offer a savings program and paid time off for volunteerism.

Shauna Bear, vice-president of human resources with SIGA, nominated the company for the award due to SIGA treating their employees right.

"Every day we aim to instill a sense of pride, place, and belonging in our employees, and this is proof that we're doing just that, so I want to thank our employees for their passion and their commitment to delivering exceptional First Nations hospitality and entertainment."

Arthur Ward, Pattison Agriculture president, said that while they aren't sure who nominated them, they assume it was an employee who was happy working at the business.

"There would have been an application process, so I'm guessing that someone had taken it upon themselves, who was happy with what we're doing and was excited to be a part of the organization and would have sent in the organization."

He said that being able to treat employees well was a reflection of the quality of the employees themselves.

"The organization is only as good as the people that are in it, and the team that we have. That's what's exciting, is to be recognized for how great our people are, and how we look after our people, so it was very humbling."

Having won the award last year, Bear explained that the award makes a job with the gambling organization a much sought after position.

"We've built our employer brand such that we're seeing very qualified people coming to apply at our positions in each of our casinos and our central office and we love it. It's great that we have the number of qualified applications to the positions we are posting."

Pattison's Ward said that he hoped the outcome would be the same for the farm equipment supply company.

"Hopefully, when you get recognition like this, the hope is that people hear about it, and then if they're looking at the industry, or they're considering different opportunities that they would maybe want to give you a look if they weren't before. It's exciting, hopefully, it'll definitely drum interest in folk who want to come and join our team."
