The events leading up to Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada continued yesterday with a hockey-filled day at SaskAbiltities in Swift Current. The celebration was also used as a launch event for 2019's rodeo-themed Ability Bowl.

The Stanley Cup made a brief appearance before a frigid game of road hockey took place in the parking lot featuring a large collection of local celebrities.

Kimi Duzan, the regional director with SaskAbilities, said the cold hockey festivities outweighed all the planning that was required to make it a successful event.

"There was some work and planning, but it was fun to plan and it so great," she said. "We have so many community partners here, and in particular the NHL alumni and the Stanley Cup that honoured SaskAbiltiies with their presence and their support... it's a great day, but more importantly, we're looking forward to Rodeo Bowl and everything that's ahead.

Some of the local celebrities to take part in the hockey game included Swift Current MLA Everett Hindley, Cypress Hill-Grasslands MP David Anderson, some Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats, and Swift Current City RCMP Staff Sergeant Gary Hodges was the referee.
