The Swift Current Minor Hockey Association received a sizeable donation this morning.

Rene Alexandre donated $1,000 to the hockey program as part of his winning bid for a signed Toronto Maple Leafs Auston Matthews jersey.

The jersey was auctioned off on Country Music Radio's Facebook page, a social media platform Alexandre didn't have until this past weekend.

"I don't have a Facebook account," he said. "Me and my boy were on Saturday looking to bid on this jersey and he set me up for an account and I realize now that I'm on Facebook."

Alexandre added that he often makes bids during contests to try and bid up the price for a good cause and if he gets saddled with the item he's perfectly fine with that.

The auction opened on February 5's Trading Post when Ron MacLean presented the show with the jersey as a gift from the National Hockey League and the Toronto Maple Leafs to be sold and the proceeds to go to minor hockey.
