A fairly large portion of southwestern Saskatchewan will be in the dark for multiple hours late tonight as SaskPower carries out some upgrades.

The crown corporation will be doing some transmission line work that will see residents in Maple Creek, Cypress Hills, Piapot, Tompkins, Golden Prairie, and surrounding areas without power beginning at midnight and spanning until 4 a.m.

"We're are doing some transmission line substation work to improve reliability to the area," Scott McGregor, a media relations consultant with SaskPower, said. "So overnight some customers might wake up in the morning on Thursday morning and see some flashing clocks in their house."

McGregor added that the 4-hours they've allotted themselves should be more than enough time to tackle the necessary upgrades.

"We plan this work to have the least amount of impact to these customers that are going to be affected, that's why we're doing it overnight," he said.
