Bridge work started this week at the Highway 1 overpass above Central Avenue in Swift Current.

Steve Shaheen, interactive and social media consultant with the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure for Saskatchewan, said the $300,000 project is expected to be done by early November, depending on the weather.

"The good thing with bridge work is you can do some of that stuff over the winter months," said Shaheen. "But again, it's much easier for them to get going when the weather is cooperative."

Expansion joints are being replaced, and girders, girder seats, and abutments are being repaired.

Westbound traffic is down to one lane, with a speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour. There is also a width restriction of 4.7 metres.

Shaheen asked that people slow down and "watch for people and equipment working."
