This weekend there is a mass gathering freedom rally scheduled for Maple Creek and area. Ahead of the rally Maple Creek's Mayor, Michelle McKenzie expressed her concerns ahead of the event planned by activist Chris Saccocia (Chris Sky).

"The town of Maple Creek supports the freedom of speech and respects each individual's rights and opinions, we respect peaceful protests as it is your right as a Canadian citizen," McKenzie said, "However, at this time we do not encourage large mass gatherings due to the increase in COVID 19 cases in our community and the variants of concern, the town of Maple Creek's main priority is the health and safety of our community and surrounding area."

With the current restrictions and guidelines also prohibiting large mass gatherings even outside, McKenzie added that the local authorities, as well as the Saskatchewan Health Authority, have been notified of the event.

"Outdoor gatherings cannot exceed more than 10 people, please continue to keep Maple Creek safe by practicing safe social distancing, wear your mask, wash your hands, and do not attend mass gatherings." Said McKenzie reminding people of the current restrictions and how to protect yourself and others from COVID 19.

A few politicians also shared their opinion on the freedom rally.

"I do not think this is the time for someone to be traveling halfway across the country to come in and to advocate for Saskatchewan people to be not wearing masks, not following public health orders." Said Premier Scott Moe
