Roughly 12 hours after the City of Swift Current's 2019 budget was released at city council, it was shown off again this morning at the Living Sky Casino.

This time it was in front of dozens of Swift Current business owners and residents at the 'State of the City' breakfast, which the Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce hosted.

Karla Weins, the CEO of the Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce, said hosting the event is ideal for them with not many people attending the City Budget release the night before.

"We as a chamber feel it's very important, taxation has a huge impact on everyone's bottom line especially business owners," she said. "The plan to grow Swift Current, attract investment here, help our existing businesses be more productive, and shop local which I can't emphasize enough. It's just a great partnership for us to be able to invite our business members to come out and hear it from the horse's mouth so to speak."

After six-years of big-time tax jumps, 2019's increase will seem very modest at 2.9 per cent.

One area that will receive a lot of attention in the budget is growth - with about 46.2% of the capital budget allocated towards.

"As we're looking at growth, growth means not just new businesses and new houses, it actually means a lot of what's underground," Swift Current Mayor Denis Perrault said. "A lot of our discussion today was about pipes and putting electrical underground and all those other things in order to be ready and poised for the growth."

The event is deemed a 'revenue neutral' by the Chamber of Commerce after paying for the food and the venue.
