There'll be a little less vehicle movement on the TransCanada between Swift Current and Moose Jaw again today, but a little more helicopter movement up above.

A helicopter will be stringing lines again as the new power line is set up between Swift Current and the Pasqua Switching Station east of Moose Jaw.

Stringing started up in the Rush Lake area yesterday, causing a few traffic stoppages between Chaplin and Herbert, and will continue today barring adverse weather.

Work in the area is expected to last until around February - again, depending on how the weather is - but that's just part of the far-larger-scale project.

"This isn't going to be the end of it either - this is an ongoing thing - you remember the work that was going on near Herbert initially, and then north of Swift Current, then we were north of Moose Jaw, we're at Rush Lake now. So more work's coming down the pipe," said SaskPower Spokesperson Joel Cherry. "There's going to be work on Highway 1 at Chaplin yet, again some more work near Moose Jaw, so this is an ongoing project."

The four-lane Highway 1 is down to one lane at times, but Cherry said delays should be that lengthy.

The current work around Rush Lake was initially scheduled from January 14 to February 5, but it didn't wind up being started until yesterday. Traffic stoppages weren't intended to start until the weekend, but they began yesterday too.

Cherry said all construction should be complete by February 2020 on the power line.
