The Town of Maple Creek has hired an Emergency Response  Coordinator.

Trent Empey will take on the title right away, and describes what his job will involve, "Well, what I'm supposed to do is be looking for things that could happen in the future and try to mitigate the experience for people. In other words, bad things that could happen to the town..the community..I want to have a plan together to put people back into their homes when it's finished."

Empey has worked for twenty four years on the local fire department. He has been taking classes on different levels for ICS, has worked with The Saskatchewan Emergency Preparedness Association, and has been through disasters including flooding and fire.

He says he wants an updated Emergency Measures Plan put into place that is more current, and works for everyone. He adds that he's open to talking to anyone with ideas about preparing for emergencies.
