Brad Wall's decision to step down was met with a mixed reaction. But one thing that is clear is many had an appreciation for his service to the province.

The New Democratic Party, Liberal Party, and the Progressive Conservative Party all addressed the premier's decision to step down.

NDP Leader Nicole Sarauer explained that they weren’t surprised by Wall’s decision.

"We knew Brad Wall was going to step down, although the timing may have been a little surprising for everybody, we knew that it was going to happen eventually especially with the feedback that the government has been receiving about the decisions that they have been making, it's not overly surprising."

Sarauer did commend Wall dedicated decades of his life to politics, due to the impact it takes on someone and their family.

The Saskatchewan Liberals thanked Brad Wall for his personal commitment and public service to the province. The Liberals did say though that what Wall left behind will have a long-term impact on every Saskatchewan citizen.

Darrin Lamoureux, the leader of Saskatchewan Liberals, talked about what Wall left behind.

"While the best intentions of Premier Wall cannot be questioned, unfortunately what Wall left behind will have a long-term impact on every Saskatchewan citizen and that after squandering every last dollar of resource revenue during the boom by building costly mega projects and being responsible for scandals like the GTH scandal, Saskatchewan is now faced with the consequences of that government mismanage."

Lamoureux added that worst of all there has been nothing left for the province to save for future generations or to begin the transition to towards a more diverse, competitive and environmentally-sustainable economy.

The PC Party wished Wall and his future endeavours well, but also they expect that before Wall leaves office, he should bring a conclusion to some very large issues that developed under his leadership.

Rick Swenson, who has been the PC Party leader since 2006, talked about Mr Wall’s decision.

"Premier Wall's decision to leave public life, I'm sure it was not an easy one. Mr Wall has been involved politics all his adult life and certainly knows that no politician should stay forever."

Swenson added what he believes Wall should do before he leaves the premier’s chair.

"Wall's government needs to open the books and cooperate with every agency on the GTH land scandal. The public should and needs to know the total cost of Walls P3 (public-private-partnership) project before he leaves office as the province will be paying the bills for 30 years after Mr Wall is officially gone from the Premier's chair."

Swift Current Mayor Denis Perrault said he was very thankful for Brad Wall's time of service as a premier to the province and as an MLA to the city of Swift Current.
