On Wednesday members of the community were invited out to a night of food, drinks, and a few games of pool, while raising money for a good cause.

SaskAbilities, in partnership with Burns & McDonnell, hosted a night on the town, raising money for the former of the two organizations.

Burns & McDonnell purchased the food and drink for the night of fundraising hosted at Lucky Charlie's and the Buffalo Brew Pub.

The fundraiser started out with a pool tournament hosted at Lucky Charlie's, and ended off at the Buffalo Brew Pub for a supper.

The winners of the pool tournament received jackets courtesy of SaskAbilities.

Burns & McDonnell paid for the meals and drinks of the patrons at both of said establishments, with the fundraising portion of the night coming via a 50/50 raffle.

Dewey Cook, senior construction manager with Burns & McDonnell, said that this was done to help maximize profits that SaskAbilities would receive.

"It's all about making money for the fundraiser, right, or for the charity, and if they have to spend money out of that money, it just kind of defeats the purpose of making money, so we just picked up the tab and said 'you know what, let's make it a full honest to goodness cheque' and here it is."

The event saw 32 people participate, and around $250 was raised from the 50/50.

All proceeds from the raffle are said to be going towards this year's rodeo-themed Ability Bowl fundraiser.

Michelle Poirier, community relations coordinator with SaskAbilities said that outlined what the Ability Bowl event would help fund.

"Camp Easter Seal which is a fully wheelchair accessible facility at Manitou Beach, some children and youth taking part for the first time, and then funds from that also go to Summer Fun which is right here in Swift Current, children and youth with disabilities go on outings together, learn about our community, have a great time, and feel a sense of belonging."

Cook spoke on what made him want to choose SaskAbilities as a sponsor of the event.

"We worked with them last year on a fundraiser but I didn't know all the stuff they did, they took me down there and showed me all this stuff, I said 'You know what, this is great, you guys do an outstanding job."

SaskAbilities is just the latest of benefactors of a program which Cook referred to as 'Burns & Mac giving back.'

"You know, we just want to give back, we're fortunate enough to have a great job working here in Canada, and we want to be able to give some of that back, its not just about us coming up here and just working and leaving, we work here, our kids go to school here, we eat here, we play here, we've met everybody in the community, everybody in the community knows us, we know them, it's been an awesome time here.

Cook said that with powerplant construction scheduled to come to an end shortly, they may not be able to stay in town for SaskAbilities Ability Bowl, which is why they started promoting and raising money for the fundraiser early.
