The Shaunavon and District Emergency Measures Organization held a couple of information sessions at the Grand Coteau Center in Shaunavon yesterday.

Both an afternoon and an evening session took place, offering information on how local leaders are prepared in the case of an emergency situation, and how the public can contribute.

Sonja Lidfors is the Emergency Measures Coordinator for the Town of Shaunavon and the RM's of Arlington, Bone Creek, Grassy Creek and Wise Creek. She says, "So, if it's something large scale, a tornado, or a flood, or a long term power outage, ya know some of the different things you've seen in communities around us in the past, First Responders go and take care of the initial hit. But there's other things that need to be done. Sometimes there's evacuations, sometimes there's food needed for First Responders, sometimes people need a shelter to go to."

Lidfors adds that everyone has something they offer, and no specific abilities are needed.

Also available at the sessions was detailed information on volunteering and what positions are needed.
