It's a new chapter for how healthcare is delivered in the province, as the Saskatchewan Health Authority launches today.

Dr. Joanne Sivertson is president of the Saskatchewan Medical Association and said they're pleased with the amount of physicians in management positions under the new structure.

"I am pleased to see that on day one of the operations, there are physicians in key positions, and the SHA is moving forward with the physician perspective at the table,” she said in a statement. “The amalgamation of the new authority was a big topic of conversation among physicians in this province over the last 10 months.”

The medical association said they're cautiously optimistic about the new health authority.

Today's meeting mostly deals with formalities, as several designations, delegations, and appointments of legislative provisions had to be made.
