Saskatchewan RCMP say they've ramped things up in several areas in preparation for marijuana becoming legal yesterday.

In a Tuesday release, the provincial RCMP said that as impaired driving continues to be an issue in Saskatchewan, they've been "working diligently with municipal, provincial, and federal partners to ensure officers are well-equipped to detect drug-impaired driving."

Saskatchewan RCMP plans to have over 100 Drug Recognition Experts on the force by the end of 2019.

The Swift Current City RCMP currently have four DREs, and want to have as many people trained as they can. But it's a month-long process, so there's a challenge sending an officer or two at a time.

The Swift Current Rural RCMP have one DRE at the moment and are hoping to send another one for training this year.

In the province, over 100 RCMP officers are trained to administer Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.
