It's a new year meaning there is a new Saskatchewanderer.

Zane Buchanan was recently named to the position for 2019 and he's excited to get going with his new role.

"I just think it's such a rare opportunity that you get such freedom within a role like this and you get to kind of express who you are as a human as well as the content you're creating," he said. "I don't think I'd be able to do it in any other province but Saskatchewan, or if I did it would be ingenuine."

Buchanan currently lives on an acreage near White City and will be spending the majority of his first month on the job meeting with sponsors and doing interviews. But after that, he will be thoroughly exploring the province including the southwest.

"I'm basically kind of striving to go from corner to corner to corner and cover kind of all of it," he said.

One thing Buchanan is hoping to accomplish is to show how diverse the province really is.

"Indigenous diversity as well as LGBTQ diversity," he said. "Between studying and working in Vancouver and Toronto respectively... over that time I became very cognizant of false stigmas that surround the province. I kind of want to broaden our audience beyond what's just in Saskatchewan... and with that power, I kind of want to be able to show that we do have a very eclectic and diverse province."

Since the program launched in 2011, CAA has provided a vehicle, a CAA membership, and gas vouchers.
