With the announcement last month from the Government of Saskatchewan that they would be providing individualized funding for children under six years of age diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, SaskFeat has some concerns.

Arden Fiala is the President of SaskFeat. She says "Will the government provide added funding for that family that has to go from Frontier to Saskatoon? That 4,000 will not last as long and it's not going directly to the individual for service and support. It's gonna have to pay for the mileage, the meals, the hotels, plus the cost of the services."

Beginning this month, the Government will provide $4,000 per child with ASD under the age of six whose families have applied for and meet the program criteria.

The Ministry of Health is also building a registry of autism service providers to assist families.

According to SaskFeat, instead of "stepping up to the plate" the Government is asking non-profit/volunteer agencies to assist in shouldering the financial burdens for their short falls.
