SGI Canada is teaming up with the Saskatchewan Red Cross in a pilot project to help people impacted by disasters in the province.

The partnership that will run until June of 2019 will see SGI offer up both financial and volunteer support for families recovering from tragedies.

Tyler McMurchy, the manager of media relations with SGI, said they deal with people who are hit by disasters often.

"This partnership is a really good fit," he said. "Saskatchewan people are known for their volunteer spirit and our company is filled with those types of people. This is a great opportunity for them and the company to give back in another way."

The financial commitment from SGI Canada is $35,000 in funding, including $25,000 for flood clean-up kits and assisting families with long-term recovery needs, and an additional $10,000 will be provided for equipment and necessities as identified.

"They have a small number of employees but they rely very heavily on volunteers," McMurchy added. "That's why the key part of this partnership is making SGI employees available to volunteers."

McMurchy added that if it works out for both sides things could be extended into the future.
